French Onion Soup

Onions precooked in butter are then cooked in beef and chicken bouillon, flavored with a little Worcestershire sauce and black pepper, and topped with toast and melted cheese.
 

Ingredients

  • 2 large onions
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1 cube beef bouillon
  • 2 cubes chicken bouillon
  • 1 teaspoon Worstershire sauce
  • 3 cups boiling water
  • Dash cracked black pepper
  • Toast
  • Swiss or Parmesan cheese

Method

Slice onions into rings or chop. Combine onions in a saucepan with butter. Fry until onions are soft and golden brown in color. Stir in flour. Combine all bouillon cubes and water. Add to onion mixture. Add Worstershire sauce and pepper. Let soup simmer for approximately 20 minutes or until slightly thickened in texture, stirring occasionally. Serve hot, topped with a piece of toast covered with melted Swiss or parmesan cheese.

 

Notes: A great side dish for a cold night.
