Spinach, sprinkled on top of alfredo sauce, gives this pizza its green color. Crumbled Italian sausage, pine nuts and cheeses add flavor.

Ingredients

  • 1 store-bought regular-size pizza crust
  • 1 or 2 links Italian sausage (sweet or hot)
  • 1/2 cup (or more) of your favorite alfredo pasta sauce
  • Pinch of nutmeg (either fresh grated or ground)
  • 1, 10-oz. package frozen, chopped spinach, thawed and well drained
  • 1/4 cup pine nuts, toasted
  • 3/4 cup shredded mozzarella (use more or less, as desired)
  • 1/4 cup grated parmesan
  • 2 Tbsp. extra virgin olive oil

Method

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Open sausage links; cook, crumble and drain. Spread alfredo sauce evenly over pizza crust. Sprinkle with a little nutmeg. (Use just a pinch--no more.) Sprinkle spinach, pine nuts, sausage and cheeses evenly on top. Brush edges of crust with some olive oil. Drizzle any remaining oil atop cheese. Bake at 400 degrees for 10-15 minutes, or until cheese is golden brown and bubbly.

Notes: This was an "accidental" pizza that I created while at the beach with my family. We tried to create different pizzas. I hadn't expected this one to be so good. But it was! My sister called me as soon as we returned home for the recipe so she could make it again. I call it Green Gobblin' pizza because the spinach makes it green, and everyone will want to "gobble" it up!
