Pizza Sandwiches
Submitted by: Hewaida
The dough for these pizza sandwiches uses baking powder, rather than yeast, and has butter cut into the mixture. This egg dough is rolled out, filled with cheddar cheese and olives, then folded in half and baked.
Ingredients
- Dough:
- 4 cups flour
- 1 tbsp Baking Powder
- 1/2 cup Margarine or Butter
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup milk (may need more to moisten dough as desired)
- Fillings:
- 283 g shredded cheddar cheese (1 bar)
- 1/2 lb pitted black olives
- 1 egg yolk, beaten

Method
Place the flour, with the baking powder, and then add the margarine in a large bowl for mixing. Mix all ingredients together. An electric mixer would be of great help. Beat 2 eggs then add to the bowl. Add the milk and mix together until you get a soft dough. Leave the dough for half an hour; in the meanwhile you may prepare the fillings. Shred the cheddar cheese. Chop olives into pieces. Take one piece of dough and roll it in the palm of your hand to form a small ball. Place it on a clean dry surface and pat it out. Hint: you may use a rolling pin. Add the fillings (a little of the cheese and olives) to fill the lower third of the dough. Fold dough over filling to make a half circle. Seal edges, then use the edge of a spoon to make a decorative edge, if desired. Brush the surface of the dough with egg yolk. Place all your prepared dough on a baking pan and bake in the oven at 350 F for 1/2 hour. The sandwiches should be golden brown when ready to come out.
