This flavorful and creamy stovetop mac and cheese with bacon and jalapenos is topped with honey glazed chicken strips.

  • Servings: 6-8
  • Prep Time: 20 min
  • Cook Time: 25 min
  • Total Time: 45 min

18 Frozen, breaded Chicken Strips, or fingers
1 lb box Elbow Macaroni
4 Tbsp Butter
4 Tbsp All Purpose Flour
½ tsp Kosher Salt
½ tsp Black Pepper
2 cups Half & Half
2 cups Whole or 2% Milk
4 cups Shredded Cheddar Cheese
2 oz Pasteurized Cheese Product
¼ cup Jalapeno Slices From Jar, diced
6 slices Bacon, cooked Crisp & Broken Into Bite Size Pieces
¼ cup Honey

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. Place chicken strips on a baking sheet and cook until crispy, about 20 minutes. Meanwhile, prepare the mac and cheese. Bring 6 quarts of salted water to a boil. Add macaroni and cook for 12 minutes; drain and set aside. Melt the butter in a large dutch oven or saucepan. Whisk in the flour, salt, and pepper until smooth. Add the half and half and milk; cook about 2-3 minutes, stirring

constantly. Stir in the cheeses and simmer over a low heat until melted, continuing to stir. Fold in the macaroni, jalapenos, and bacon. Remove from heat. Drizzle the honey over the cooked chicken strips. Place a serving on a plate and top with 2 or 3 chicken strips. Serve warm.

Helpful Tips:

My grandchildren loved this without the jalapenos as mac & cheese and chicken strips are their favorite lunch. It is also great to pour the mac & cheese in a large serving dish, top with the chicken, and then drizzle the honey so that more runs down into the macaroni.
