Vidalia Onion Gratin

Sliced sweet onions are covered with cream of chicken soup & shredded Swiss cheese. Buttered slices of French bread are placed on top and baked.

Ingredients:

  • 2 Vidalia onions
  • 1 can cream of chicken soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 2 cups shredded Swiss cheese
  • 1 loaf French bread

Method

Thinly slice the onions. Mix together the soup, milk & soy sauce. Grease a 9x13" pan. Add the onion in layers. Pour the soup mixture over the onions. Sprinkle with the shredded Swiss cheese. Bake for 25 minutes. Meanwhile, cut the French bread into 1/2" slices. Butter each slice. Remove the onions from the oven. Place the bread on top of the onion mixture. Bake an additional 20 minutes until the bread is golden brown.

Notes: Other cheese may be used for an alternate flavor.
