The sauce that's tossed with the cooked pasta and shrimp is made with canned beans, hot peppers, garlic and oil, processed until smooth.
Prepare linguine per package directions but cook 1 minute less. Do not drain -- yet!
While pasta is cooking, put beans (as they come in can--do not rinse or drain) in bowl of food processor using the steel blade. Add pepper(s), garlic, wine and salt. Process until smooth--about 1 minute. Continue processing and slowly add olive oil, processing until sauce is smooth and creamy in texture. Taste and add more garlic, hot sauce/peppers, and salt as desired.
One minute before pasta is done pour frozen shrimp into the pasta water; cook one minute (or till done); drain pasta, but do not rinse it. Put it back into pasta pot; pour sauce over it and toss well. Pour pasta with sauce into serving bowl; place basil sprig on top to serve.
Notes:
You will be surprised by this rich and creamy sauce and no one will guess what's in it! Grated parmesan or shredded mozzarella can be served as a topping.
